Steps

  1. Download and print our free clipart. Cut out the lantern and each of its windows.
  2. Use masking tape to position and secure the clip art over the glitter cardstock. Cut out the lantern from the cardstock using scissors; cut windows using a cutting knife and self healing mat.
  3. Reposition the clipart over the cardstock to cut out more lanterns. A 12″ x 12″ sheet of cardstock creates 4 lanterns.
  4.  Cut out squares of cellophane, sized to cover the windows of the lanterns. Layer a sheet of yellow cellophane with blue cellophane to create a light blue colour reminiscent of real glass.
  5. Attach sheets of cellophane to the back of cardstock lanterns using double sided tape.
  6. Using a small hole punch, make holes at the top and bottom of the cardstock lanterns.
  7. Connect the lanterns using chain rings.
  8. Hang using fishing line.

TIP: The chain rings prevent the lanterns from revolving too much so only one side of the lanterns is on display. However, if you plan on hanging your lanterns where both, front and back, are on display, sandwich two lanterns together using double sided tape. Each of the two lanterns should have their own cellophane backing so any discrepancies between the cutting of one lantern to the other doesn’t show.
