Spring has sprung and Easter is around the corner. I was inspired to make these cute woodland animals Easter eggs on one of my many walks to the neighborhood forest. As the weather gets warmer, “forest bathing” (as the wellness community calls it) quickly becomes one of my favorite pastimes to relax and rejuvenate.
I think there’s something particularly charming about forests this time of year. Maple trees are producing sap, birds are building their nests, rabbits are hopping around. There’s so much to work with for a child’s imagination and to help them learn through tactile play.
In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to decorate your Easter eggs to look like 4 different woodland animals: a fox, a bluebird, a bunny and a Canadian beaver!

Materials
- 4 hard boiled eggs
- Acrylic paint, light blue, reddish-orange, brown and black
- Paint brush
- White glue
- Construction paper, yellow, white, black and light pink

Steps to Make Woodland Animals Easter Eggs
- Apply 3 coats of acrylic paint to make a light blue egg, a reddish-orange egg and a brown egg. Leave the last egg white.
- Use construction paper to cut out critter details.
- For a blue bird, make a beak using yellow construction.
- For a fox, cut out two petal-like shapes in white paper and cut out a nose using black paper.
- For a beaver, cut out a nose from black paper and teeth from white paper.
- For a bunny, make a nose and ears using pink paper.
- Glue all paper details to eggs with a paintbrush and white glue.
- Add eyes to eggs with black paint.
Once completed, I displayed the woodland animals Easter eggs in a sweet little wicker basket filled with natural moss. Make this craft a couple days ahead of Easter and I think children will love taking tender care of their little animal eggs. It becomes a craft and a playtime activity all in one!
