Do you like miniature things? They’re amusing, they’re cute and now they’re for Easter. My simple hack for making miniature Easter eggs is to use Cadbury Mini Eggs. They are so addictively tasty – I was so gleeful when Cadbury began making them available year around instead of just around Easter. The crunchy shell with the soft milk chocolate inside is just divine.
For this craft, I used edible food pens as well as edible paint to decorate these miniature Easter eggs. Both of these supplies can be found at stores that sells cake decorating supplies. And of course, these supplies can be found online too.
You can do tons of cute things with these miniature Easter eggs, such as putting them in miniature baskets for a miniature Easter bunny or for a miniature Easter dollhouse. But today, I’m sharing with you a hosting idea with these miniature Easter eggs.
If you’re hosting for Easter, make a little nest from non-toxic paper shreds. Again, this is a material you can find in the cake decorating or baking supplies aisle of specialty craft stores. Place the nest on each guest’s plate, over a fabric napkin. Then, carefully perch your decorated miniature Easter eggs on each nest. I’ve allotted 3 mini eggs per guest but you do you!
It’s a super sweet welcome for your guests as they take their seat. Just a little sugary snack before the main feast!
(Of course, they can set it aside for later too, if they’re staunch about dessert after dinner.)
Materials
- Small candy coated chocolate eggs, such as Cadbury Mini Eggs
- Candy decorating pens, such as by Wilton
- Metallic food paint, gold
- Small tip paint brush (reserved only for food uses)
- Paper Easter grass
- Styrofoam disposable cereal bowl, piece of foam board or something similar
- Toothpicks
Steps
Make an egg drying rack with toothpicks and a Styrofoam bowl turned upside down or a piece of foam board.ย
Decorate the eggs with stripes, squiggles and polka dots using the candy decorating pens and let dry on rack.ย

To transform a candy egg into a chick, make two eyes with black, then use orange to make a beak and add details.

To decorate the eggs with gold, use a small tip paintbrush and metallic food paint.ย
Shape the paper Easter grass into a nest with hands; snip away any loose ends with scissors for a clean look.ย
Place the nest at each place setting on top of napkins. Add candy eggs to nest.ย
