If you’re celebrating Hanukkah and love to DIY, my Star of David Hanukkah wreath is for you! This Hanukkah wreath is for all the folks that love the glitter and sparkle of Christmas ornaments. Yes, you might not celebrate Christmas but why should that mean you can’t enjoy the beauty of shiny objects and repurpose them for holidays you do celebrate? (At least, that is how I think about it when I’m decorating and crafting for Muslim holidays.)
I originally made this craft for the Martha Stewart website back in 2016 and lucky you, today I’m sharing it on my blog. Use this wreath to decorate your front door, place it above your fireplace mantel, hang it with ribbon from an oversized mirror or place it near where your menorah is displayed. It’s totally up to you!
My favorite part about this craft is that some of the materials are FREE! When does that ever happen in the crafting world?
I’ve gone with a blue color theme for this wreath but personally, I think you could pull off a really nice wreath with a white, gold and silver color combination too. If you’re having a winter wonderland party or just like neutral colors in your home, you might want to try that!
So let’s dive in and make this gorgeous wreath!

Materials
- 6 wooden sticks – I’m using wooden paint stirrers meant for 5 gallon paint buckets. They’re free at any home improvement/ paint store! Saving money on these sticks is helpful becauase you’ll need a lot of ornaments for this project!
- Miter box and saw
- Blue paint
- Paint brush
- Glue gun
- Lots of glue sticks
- Lots of blue ornaments. Used here are two sizes – one about 2” big and the other about 1” big. A variety of blue ornaments ranging in different shades/ textures were used on this wreath, including both plastic and glass. I used 3 large boxes of the small ornaments and 5 small boxes of the medium ornaments. I used around 160 ornaments in total.

Steps
- Saw off the handles of the stirrers with a miter box.
- Use a glue gun to assemble the sticks into a Star of David shape.
- Paint the star blue.
- Hot glue ornaments to star, working your way all around the star. (No need to worry too much about small gaps peaking through as you already painted the base blue.)

Ta-da! Isn’t it gorgeous? After I was done this photoshoot, I donated this wreath to the synagogue in my area which includes a community centre for activities like kids crafts and winter camps. I thought they might like to use it for their congregation’s Hanukkah party!
